Weds, Dec. 28th
After a fun afternoon with some of my bridesmaids, we did a quick change at the hotel and headed to the church for the rehearsal. John & I took a few pictures before the actual rehearsal, mostly to get pictures of my dress.
The dress I was wearing was made by my Granny, my mom’s mom. She and my Grandpa got married around Halloween – and for whatever reason purple satin was cheaper than white. So, she made and wore a purple dress and a white lace cardigan on their wedding day.
Fast forward a few years – my mom wore the same dress and cardigan to my parent’s rehearsal & rehearsal dinner.
Fast forward a few more years – I wore the same dress and cardigan. Turns out I’m not as small as my mom and Granny (shocker), so my get-up came with slight modifications to the cardigan – cut the sleeves shorter, re-sewed the snaps and to the dress – new zipper, longer straps.
It was incredibly special to me to be able to wear the dress. How fitting, too, that the main color of all three weddings – Granny/Grandpa, Mom/Dad, and Me/John was purple. My mom’s bridesmaids dresses were even purple. Kinda neat, huh?
John wore a coat and tie (since I wore a dress), but we asked that everyone else dress casually. Dinner was BBQ, after-all. No formality needed there! It was held at John’s parent’s house in Lake Worth – an incredible home with rich family history. It first belonged to John’s Grandparents (his mom’s parents). Tables filled the living room, and food lined the kitchen and dining room. We mingled, shared grace, ate a scrumptious meal prepared by John’s uncle Randy (convenient to have a caterer in the family, eh?), cut the grooms cake (Publix chocolate cake with whipped PB frosting – I don’t usually like chocolate cake but this was GOOD), and then heard wonderfully gracious “toasts” from friends and family. It was a wonderful evening – very very meaningful to us in many different ways.
